MODERATOR | J. Michael Barnes, PE, LEED AP- Regional Manager/Vice President, Pease Engineering & Architecture, PC

ichael Barnes is the Regional Manager and Vice President at Pease Engineering and Architecture, PC, which is an affiliate of LaBella Associates, where the energy sector accounts for nearly 20% of their annual portfolio. He is an engineer with 18 years of experience in design, documentation and construction administration. His background includes projects of virtually every type of construction including residential, commercial, educational, recreational, utility, industrial, and highway. Mike is an active member in the Charlotte Chamber Board of Advisors and the America Water Works Association. He is a member of the Leadership North Carolina Class XX, and current Board Member of LNC. He was also awarded the Charlotte 40 under 40 Award in 2010 by the Charlotte Business Journal, and he was a Mayor's Mentoring Alliance Mentor of the Year Nominee in 2005. Mike is also a proud graduate of North Carolina State University.
PANELIST | Martha Purser - Director of Facilities Management at Duke Energy Corporation
M
artha is currently the Director of Facilities Management in Real Estate Services (RES) Duke Energy and is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the commercial facilities for Duke throughout the Carolinas West region. This consists of about 5 million square feet of space including corporate office space as well as regional offices, operations centers and control buildings, etc in North and South Carolina. As a part of this function, Martha also manages the Project Team responsible for the renovations in these buildings as well as new buildings being designed and built in the Carolinas West Region.
Martha began her career at Duke in the Design Engineering Department responsible for piping and support design at the nuclear sites. Later, as a part of the Nuclear Generation Department she worked in many different areas at the Catawba site including project management, regulatory compliance, safety assurance, and work control to name a few.
Martha is a graduate of the University of North Carolina - Charlotte with a degree in civil engineering, and she holds a Professional Engineering license in both North and South Carolina.

PANELIST | Mike Davis - Charlotte Regional Manager at the NC Sustainable Energy Association
Mike Davis is head of the NC Sustainable Energy Association’s (NCSEA) efforts in the Charlotte region. Mike is NCSEA’s primary contact for members and stakeholders in the region, serves as a voice for the association at critical meetings, events and presentations, and offers insight into the policy and market trends he finds within the community.
In addition to clean energy, Mike has expertise in sustainable building practices, urban development and historic preservation. Prior to joining NCSEA, he was the Charlotte Business Manager for Southern Energy Management and Project Manager/Business Development Manager with the Conformity Corporation.
Mike is a member of USGBC NC’s Legislative Advocacy Committee, and is on the Advisory Committee of the Central Piedmont Community College Sustainability Program, the Centralina Council for Governments’ “Connect Our Future” Energy Subcommittee, the UNC Charlotte Solar Decathlon Steering Committee and the Sustainability Committee for the Charlotte Chapter of Habitat for Humanity.
Mike holds a Master of Media Arts from the University of South Carolina and a B.A. from Winthrop University where he majored in Political Science and had a minor in Business Administration. He is an accredited USGBC LEED® Green Associate, and is also a NC Licensed General Contractor and a NC Licensed Real Estate Broker.
