We will talk with Kathryn Horne (Director of Planning, Design and Construction at the University of North Carolinas at Charlotte), Vicki Saville (Associate Vice President for Facilities & Construction at Central Piedmont Community College), and Kevin Utsey (Principal at Clark Nexsen), Chiquitha Lloyd (Director of Diversty, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools), and Darren Ash (Executive Director, The ROC Construction Trade School) to get their thoughts on these questions and more.
MEET OUR PANELISTS

Kathryn Horne- Director of Planning, Design and Construction | University of North Carolina at Charlotte
Kathryn has over 25 years of professional experience in a wide range of projects extending through all phases of project development, design and construction. As Director of Planning, Design and Construction (PDC), Kathryn is responsible for overseeing the initial planning, managing the design processes, and overseeing new construction and renovations of existing space and infrastructure at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Prior to UNC Charlotte, Kathryn served as a senior planner in the Capital Planning and Space Management department at Georgia Tech. And prior to her time at Georgia Tech, she worked in private architectural practice for several Charlotte area firms. Kathryn is a registered architect (RA) and has been very active in the Society for College and University Planners (SCUP) at both the national and regional levels.

Vicki Saville, AIA, ASLA, LEED AP BD&C- Associate Vice President of Facilities and Construction | Central Piedmont Community College
Vicki Saville, AIA, ASLA, LEED AP, Associate VP of Facilities and Construction at Central Piedmont Community College has almost 40 years of architectural and landscape architectural design, construction and contract experience. She served 15 years as Facilities Architect and Landscape architect for Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools where she was responsible for site selection, planning, directing and overseeing over 260 acres of educational development, over $1.43 billion in Mecklenburg County Bonds for Education through the design management of 18 high schools, 20 middle schools and 66 elementary schools. For the past eight years she has been responsible for the design and construction contracts for the 2013 $280 million Mecklenburg County bond and pay-go projects as well as the 2016 State bond projects which have added to Central Piedmont's more than 4.0 million square feet, on six campuses and two centers in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina.

Kevin Utsey, FAIA, LEED AP BD+C - Principal | Clark Nexsen
Kevin is a principal and design architect with Clark Nexsen, a 350-person architectural and engineering practice. Projects under Kevin’s leadership have been recognized with both national and regional design awards. He has partnered with numerous colleges and universities, including The University of North Carolina at Charlotte, Central Piedmont Community College, Elon University, The George Washington University, Virginia Teach, University of Oklahoma, UNC Wilmington, and NC State University. Over many years he has juried student work and mentored aspiring designers at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg school system and is currently working on a new main library for Charlotte. Kevin is a member of the AIA College of Fellows, an honor bestowed by a jury of peers for advancing the practice, mentoring young architects, and providing service to society.

Chiquitha Lloyd, MBA, CDP, MCA- Director of Diversity & Inclusion | Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools
Chiquitha Lloyd, Director of Diversity and Inclusion at Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, has been with CMS for nineteen years. In this position, Lloyd leads the district’s effort to build a culture of equity and inclusion for all students, families, and employees. This includes district policies and procedures as well as classroom practices. In addition, she serves as the chief administrator of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Board of Education Supplier Diversity Program. Lloyd has received the 2010 Charlotte Business Journal Women in Business Achievement Award, 2013 Carolinas-Virginia Minority Supplier Development Council Leadership Award, 2015 CVMSDC MBEIC Supplier Diversity Professional Impact Award and 2017 Charlotte Observer Seven to Watch recipient. Ms. Lloyd serves or has served on the Board of Directors of the Aspire Community Capital, Carolinas-Virginia Minority Supplier Development Councils, Inc. Board Chair, American Leadership Forum - Charlotte, United Minority Contractors of North Carolina and Race Matters for Juvenile Justice.

Darren Ash- Executive Director | The ROC Construction Trade School
Darren serves as full-time executive director at The ROC Construction Trade School. His main role is to connect student participants to the construction industry in the form of mentorships, apprenticeships and permanent job placement. Darren has a strong track record of collaborating to achieve long-term organizational growth and sustainability. He was one of three founding partners of Apartment Realty Advisors (ARA), the largest private multifamily investment sales company in the U.S. until it was purchased by a publicly traded New York firm in 2014. He also founded and ran Charlotte Family Housing (CFH) for seven years, now the largest shelter to rapid rehousing agency for homeless moms in North Carolina. After CFH, he founded and ran Common Wealth Charlotte (CWC), a trauma-informed financial education and emergency loan program for low-wage workers. Darren was awarded Charlotte's Nonprofit Community Leader of the Year in 2010 and the Goodwill's Jack Callaghan Cornerstone Award in 2014. He graduated from the University of Georgia in 1982 with a Masters of Tax and CPA designation.

Currently, The City of Charlotte now requires that masks be worn inside government facilities so we will ask that all attendees wear masks during this event. We will also only allow for half capacity to help with socially distancing as well.

Cancellations made 72-hours prior to the event will receive a refund. Due to our commitment with the meeting facility for food and beverage quantities, all other cancellations or no-shows will be invoiced for the full cost of the event.
